Pregnant with my first born
Wow! I can’t believe your baby is almost here! The third trimester is usually when nesting begins, although it can start earlier, especially with feeling more energetic in the second trimester. Nesting is feeling an intense urge and surge of energy to get things done around the house such as cleaning and organizing.
Are you feeling this way lately? Well, I’m glad you’re here! Below are some nesting tips for first time moms.
Tips:
Get ahead of birth and postpartum plans!
Find a pediatrician, talk to your employer about maternity leave, and set up any childcare or help you will need. Also, meal plan for at least a couple weeks post-partum specifically set up freezer meals. I honestly did not do this, but I feel like it would have made things easier.
Assemble baby gear!
This may include stroller, car seat, swing, bouncers, activity gym. Even though the baby does not play with the toys that come with the activity gym, I liked the pad that came along with it because it’s easy to clean up and softer than putting the baby directly on the floor. In my opinion a low priority would be setting up the jumper/activity center. The baby won’t be using it until they can sit up unassisted.
Get the baby room ready!
This is the fun part! Put the crib together and whatever furniture needs to be built. You do not want to be lifting heavy things so this would be a good time to delegate the work to someone else.
Wash, fold, and put away baby clothes!
Trust me, you will not want to do a lot of organizing once the baby arrives.
Make sure the baby’s space in your room is set up!
Besides setting up the cradle and a chair to feed the baby I suggest setting up some other essentials in your room. We made it as easy on us as possible. I did not want to be walking up and down the stairs in the middle of the night to wash bottles/pumping supplies on little sleep. We have a master bathroom and we set up a small washing and drying station next to the sink. If you don’t have a master bathroom, but one that is closer than going to the kitchen, you can try that. Also, we made sure to have extra diapers and clothing in case the baby needed to be changed.
Not going overboard!
Okay, I know there is a lot to get done, but your significant other probably does not need to paint the entire house. That’s what I had my husband do. At the time it was a priority for me because I wanted it done for a while and I knew once my second child came it would be a long time before we had the energy to paint. My point is to prioritize.
You deserve rest!
Self-care is so important! Make yourself a priority before the baby arrives. Don’t wear yourself out because soon enough you will have another life to take care of!
Make the most of preparing for your nest while also making time for yourself. All the luck and love to you on your journey of motherhood. xoxo
