FREE! Yes, free! The pictures above of the cool snake, turkey, turtle tank, etc. We've explored local places and events. I LOVE looking up events and things to do with my family. You would be surprised what you can find! For example, a library in the area had a STEM fest and it was awesome! We were able to pet reptiles and bugs amongst many other amazing activities. Did I mention it was free? 😜
List of places and events:
Nature Center
The few nature centers not far from my home have animals on exhibit for example, turtles, fish, snakes. Sometimes they offer free events to the public so be sure to check out their event calendar.
Story Times
Not only does the library have free story times but so does Barnes & Noble. Also, our library will host story times in the community, like at an ice cream shop and you can receive one scoop of ice cream. Yum!
Library
Speaking of which, check out your local library's calendar. That's where we meet all the reptiles at the STEM Fest. Libraries usually have a fun kid's section as well!
Green House
This is a glass-enclosed space for plants. Beautiful place to visit!
Museum Free Days
In Chicago the museums and aquarium will host free days to the public. Check out your local historical museums too.
Open Gym
A couple churches in my area hold an open gym and you do not have to be a member. Also, check your local recreation center, although there usually is a small fee.
Nature Preserves
Park
Make it a challenge to visit various parks in your area!
Zoo
See if there are some local free zoos/conservation center! We like to visit Phillips Park Zoo in Aurora, IL. Exhibits include bald eagle, wolves, turkey, turtles, and more.
Seasonal Events
1.      Recreation Center
Recreation Centers usual host free public events that may include holiday events, movies in the park, etc.
2.      Holiday Lights
A lot of cities and towns host free light displays and visits with Santa.
3.      Music
In the summer, bands play festivals or in your local park. Your local recreation center or city website will have details.
4.      Festivals
Overall, I highly recommend doing the research! You never know what treasures you will find locally!
